Genius Doctors, Deadly Secrets Unleashed.
The highly anticipated Disney+ original series ‘Hyper Knife’, set to premiere on March 19, is already generating massive buzz, topping rankings among upcoming OTT releases.
According to Consumer Insight’s OTT Content Viewer Report for the second week of March, ‘Hyper Knife’ has outperformed heavyweight contenders like Netflix’s ‘Karma’ and TVING’s ‘Way Back Love’, securing the No.1 spot in both drama recognition and viewing intent ratings.

A Gritty, R-Rated Medical Thriller Starring Seol Kyung-gu & Park Eun-bin
Starring Seol Kyung-gu and Park Eun-bin, ‘Hyper Knife’ is an 8-episode medical thriller exploring the intense rivalry between two brilliant yet deeply flawed neurosurgeons. Notably, the series is Disney+’s first R-rated K-drama, adding to the intrigue surrounding its bold and intense storyline.
The drama follows Jung Se-ok (Park Eun-bin), a once-promising genius surgeon, as she reunites with her former mentor-turned-rival Choi Deok-hee (Seol Kyung-gu)—the very person who expelled her from the medical world.
A Neurosurgical Prodigy Turned Shadowy Surgeon
Jung Se-ok entered medical school at 17 and quickly became the rising star of neurosurgery. Her surgical skills were unmatched, but her obsession with the human brain bordered on insanity. She took pleasure in operating on patients, driven by an almost euphoric addiction to neurosurgery.
At one point, Se-ok was the prized protégé of Choi Deok-hee, the best neurosurgeon at Yeonshin University Hospital. However, her unethical ambitions and lack of empathy led to her downfall. Watching his once-promising student prioritize surgical success over patient care, Deok-hee made a drastic decision—he slapped her in the OR and expelled her from the hospital.
Disgraced and blacklisted, Se-ok descends into the underground world of illegal surgeries. She becomes a shadow doctor, secretly performing operations for money. But her moral corruption goes deeper—she enjoys killing just as much as she enjoys surgery. She manipulates, threatens, and eliminates those she deems unworthy—all without remorse.

A Deadly Reunion: The Mentor Who Needs His Rogue Student
The twisted irony unfolds when Choi Deok-hee is diagnosed with a life-threatening brain condition. He realizes that the only surgeon capable of saving him is none other than Jung Se-ok, the student he cast out years ago.
However, Se-ok harbors nothing but hatred and resentment toward her former mentor. She has no intention of helping him, but circumstances soon force her to pick up the scalpel once again.
Park Eun-bin’s Darkest Role Yet: A Serial Killer Surgeon
One of the most talked-about aspects of ‘Hyper Knife’ is Park Eun-bin’s shocking transformation. Known for playing bright, warm-hearted characters, she takes a drastic turn as a sociopathic doctor who kills without hesitation.
Se-ok is charming and likable on the surface, effortlessly winning people over. But in an instant, she flips—becoming explosive, violent, and terrifying. When confronting Deok-hee, she is feral and unpredictable, like a caged animal ready to strike.
Park Eun-bin shared what drew her to the role: "I was in the middle of filming Diva of the Deserted Island when I received the script for Hyper Knife. The title alone caught my eye. The first page had such a powerful logline that I was instantly drawn in."

Seol Kyung-gu: “I Took This Role Because of Park Eun-bin”
Seol Kyung-gu’s character, Choi Deok-hee, is initially presented as the world’s most esteemed neurosurgeon—a brilliant, dignified man respected by all. However, beneath his prestige lies a darker, more complex persona.
Describing his role, Seol Kyung-gu stated, "Deok-hee is a man who lives for the brain—completely isolated, with no real human connections. He’s arrogant, authoritative, and emotionally detached. Yet, when he exiled Se-ok, he revealed a rare moment of personal weakness."
Speaking about working with Park Eun-bin, he admitted, "She was the reason I joined this project. I was so curious and excited to act alongside her. Funny enough, in our scenes together, it wasn’t Eun-bin experiencing a dopamine rush—it was me!"
🔥 Supporting Cast & Their Roles
🔹 Yoon Chan-young as Seo Young-joo – Se-ok’s loyal right-hand man, who cleans up her crime scenes. She once saved his life, and he now follows her with unwavering devotion.
🔹 Park Byung-eun as Han Hyun-ho – An anesthesiologist who is completely unaware of Se-ok’s double life and deeply admires her passion for saving lives.
Director Kim Jung-hyun described ‘Hyper Knife’ as a psychological battlefield filled with unconventional, morally ambiguous characters. "This isn’t a typical medical drama. It’s a brutal, mind-bending story that blends the intensity of a surgical thriller with the suspense of a crime drama. It feels almost like a twisted fairytale."
He added, "At its core, this is a battle between Se-ok and Deok-hee—two geniuses entangled in a high-stakes, life-or-death struggle."
Why ‘Hyper Knife’ Is a Game-Changer for Disney+
With its intense premise, morally complex characters, and breakneck pacing, ‘Hyper Knife’ is shaping up to be one of the most unique and gripping K-dramas in recent years. Unlike formulaic Korean thrillers, it offers a fresh, unfiltered look at madness, power, and revenge.
Disney+ has been aggressively expanding into Korean content, and ‘Hyper Knife’ is a key project in its strategy to captivate global audiences.
