Despite its R-rating for mature audiences, the drama has captivated both domestic and international viewers with its intense storyline and outstanding performances. Within just seven days of its premiere, Hyper Knife soared to become the most-watched Korean content of 2025 on Disney+ globally and in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since its debut on March 19, the series quickly topped the Korean Disney+ TV show rankings in just two days and maintained the No.1 position for three consecutive weeks. According to global OTT ranking platform FlixPatrol, the show also ranked first in markets like Hong Kong and Taiwan, expanding its reach well beyond Korea.

Directed by Kim Jung-hyun and written by Kim Sun-hee, Hyper Knife is an 8-episode series that follows Jung Se-ok (played by Park Eun-bin), a once-promising genius surgeon who is forced to face off against her former mentor Choi Deok-hee (played by Sol Kyung-gu), the very person who ruined her career. The show was jointly produced by CJ ENM Studios, Vlad Studio, and Dongpung Co., Ltd.

From the casting stage, the project drew attention for showcasing a bold new side of Park Eun-bin, who delivered an emotionally complex performance. Her character's obsession with the brain and surgery, combined with a twisted, psychologically charged mentor-student relationship, kept audiences deeply immersed. She portrayed the unpredictable Jung Se-ok with precision—through her gaze, tone, behavior, and nuanced emotional layers—earning widespread acclaim for her explosive yet believable performance.

Ahead of the finale, Park Eun-bin reflected on the journey, saying, “For the past five months, I spent an intense summer with Hyper Knife and with Se-ok. While filming, I realized there are so many strange emotional layers—things I had never felt before. I hope viewers can also experience the unusual relationships in Hyper Knife, where you might find yourself thinking, ‘Why do people like that exist?’ or ‘That makes no sense… but somehow, I get it.’”

She added, “We cherished every single scene. Even though it’s just eight episodes, I hope you had fun watching it. Since it's still streaming on Disney+, I hope you'll revisit it now and then, and keep it in your hearts for a long time. Thank you so much for loving Hyper Knife.” Her message was accompanied by a playful photo where she posed as if crying.

Sol Kyung-gu, holding the official knife-themed merchandise, also said, “Thanks for joining us on Hyper Knife. It’s still on Disney+ after April 9, so binge it if you haven’t!” Yoon Chan-young, who played Seo Young-joo, added, “I truly thank everyone who loved Hyper Knife.” Park Byung-eun, who played Han Hyun-ho, left a quirky thank-you note: “I’ve been anesthetized by your love.”

Reactions to the final episode were enthusiastic. Viewers praised the acting and intensity, writing, “Isn’t this Park Eun-bin’s first villain role? She’s a genius,” “Sol Kyung-gu and Park Eun-bin’s dialogue scenes were top-tier,” and “Even the eye blinking details due to his illness—Sol Kyung-gu’s acting is next level. So good.” Others commented, “Binged the whole thing overnight… it was insanely good.”

From a production standpoint, praise continued: “Making something this tight in just eight episodes is a miracle,” and “Everything from acting to directing, music, story, writing, editing, and cinematography was top-notch.”

As for the ending, many viewers focused on the post-credit scene: “Make sure to watch the ep. 8 post-credits!” “If you didn’t get the ending, the post-credit scene clears it up!” and “That was such a satisfying final scene.” Some are already hoping for more: “That’s the ending? Season 2, please?” “Is Hyper Knife 2 coming?” and “I need a season where Se-ok returns to the hospital and moonlights cleaning up evil people.”

A few viewers shared regrets: “If this had dropped all 8 episodes at once, it would’ve been even bigger,” and “It would blow up if it were on Netflix.” Still, the consensus is that Park Eun-bin, often called a “chameleon actor,” once again proved her incredible acting range and reinforced her status as a “trustworthy lead.” She has now begun filming her next project, The Wonderfuls.

Meanwhile, Hyper Knife continues to stream on Disney+ post-finale. With fans already vowing to rewatch it from the beginning, the drama’s impact is expected to linger for quite some time.
