Jachigi

Jachigi (자치기 ‒ pronounced ja-chi-gi) ‒ is a traditional game that uses two wooden sticks, one short and one long that's used to hit the short stick. The long stick is usually 50-80 cm long and the shorter one is 12-15 cm; both of which are pointed at both their ends like a pencil. Jachigi is a two player game with usually 4 to 5 people per team, although the game can be played one-on-one. One team starts as the offensive team and the other team plays defense. One of the offensive players places the short stick on the ground (either behind a line or within a circle), and then, using the long stick, tries to hit one end of the short stick, causing the stick to fly up into the air. When the short stick flies up, the offensive player hits the short stick a second time, this time sending the stick flying. Once the offensive player has sent the short stick flying, the defensive team moves into action, trying to catch the short stick. If they can catch the stick before it hits the ground, then the teams switch sides. If the defensive side can't catch the short stick, then the distance from the line or center of the hole to the stick is measured using the long stick as a ruler, with the distance being the score for that hit. Jachigi is an active game, as the defenders have to move quickly if they're going to catch the short stick. Although the game was popular in Korea in the past, it started to be forgotten in the 2000s.
