수건돌리기 놀이는 사람들이 가운데를 향해서 원형으로 앉아 있고 한 명의 술래가 수건을 원안에 앉아 있는 사람 중 한 명 바로 뒤에 떨어뜨린다. (수건을 떨어뜨릴 때는 앉아있는 사람이 느낄 수 있고 손이 쉽게 닿을 수 있는 위치이어야 한다. 그렇지 않을 경우, 떨어뜨린 것은 인정되지 않는다. 추가적으로 원안에 있는 사람은 수건을 확인하기 위해 주위를 둘러볼 수 없고 오직 손으로만 확인해야 한다) 술래는 수건을 가진 사람이 일어나서 추격을 할 때 원을 돌며 도망가야 한다. 만약 술래가 추격하는 사람에게 태그 당하지 않고(손에 닿지 않고) 원을 한 바퀴 돌아 무사히 빈자 리에 앉을 수 있다면, 수건을 들고 있는 사람이 새로운 술래가 된다. 만일 술래가 앉기 전에 잡히면 그 술래는 노래를 부르거나 짧은 장기자랑을 하는 등 미리 합의한 벌칙을 수행해야 한다. 그러고 나서 술래로서 놀이를 계속한다. 손수건이 떨어진 자리에 앉은 사람이 고개를 돌리지 않고 손수건을 찾지 않거나 찾을 수 없을 경우 미리 합의된 벌칙을 이행한 후 술래가 된다. 이 놀이는 야외에서, 또는 공간이 충분할 경우 실내에서도 할 수 있다. 만약 당신이 등 뒤에 있는 수건을 찾으면 술래를 잡기 위해서 수건을 최대한 빨리 집어 들고 힘껏 달려야 할 것이다. 그렇지 않으면 새로운 술래가 될 것이다.

Handkerchief Game

Handkerchief Game (수건돌리기 ‒ pronounced su-geon dol-li-gi) is a traditional game where a group of people sit in a circle, all facing towards the center, and one player (the tagger) moves around the outside of the circle while carrying a rolled-up handkerchief. The tagger, as they move, drops the handkerchief directly behind one of the people seated in the circle (the handkerchief has to be dropped close enough so that the person can easily reach back and feel the towel, otherwise the drop doesn't count, plus the person in the circle can only use their hands to feel for the handkerchief ‒ they can't turn around to look). The tagger runs around the circle while the person who now has the handkerchief gets up and gives chase. If the tagger can get around the circle and sit in the now empty space before the person giving chase tags them (touches the tagger with their hand), then the person with the handkerchief becomes the new tagger. If the tagger gets tagged before they can sit down, then the tagger has to perform a pre-agreed-to-penalty, such as sing a song or perform a short talent exhibition. The tagger then continues as the tagger. If the seated player where the handkerchief is dropped doesn't look for or is unable to find the handkerchief without turning their head, then they have to perform the pre-agreed-to-penalty, after which they become the tagger. This game can be played outdoors, or indoors if there is enough space. If you find the handkerchief behind your back, you have to pick it up quickly and run with all your might to catch the tagger, otherwise you will be the new tagger.
