'Entering SM was my dream': (G)I-DLE's Yuqi reveals the reason for choosing Cube Entertainment

(G)I-DLE's member, Yuqi, revealed the reason for choosing Cube Entertainment instead of SM Entertainment.

On the episode of MBC's variety show "Radio Star" that aired on the 14th, Yuqi, a member of the girl group (G)I-DLE, appeared as a guest. During the broadcast, Yuqi talked about the reason she ultimately chose Cube Entertainment instead of SM Entertainment, which she had desired to join before her debut.

Yuqi confessed, "I had been interested in K-pop since I was in China. In fact, I am a fan of Super Junior. So, entering SM was my dream."

She continued, "I auditioned for SM in Beijing four times. After the fourth SM audition, I thought about auditioning for Cube, which was scheduled for the following week. But then, both companies contacted me at the same time."

She said, "I was really torn. SM was my dream, and Cube had the girl group 4Minute at that time, whom I liked. I had a lot of concerns. While I have a cute and pretty face, my voice leans more towards Cube's style. It's husky."

However, Yuqi explained that she ultimately chose Cube because of a comment made by an executive from the company. She said, "At that time, the Cube executive said, 'If you sign with our company, you can debut next year.' That's why I chose Cube. Anyway, I'm grateful to Cube."

Kim Gura praised her and said, "Well, SM has a lot of trainees, don't they? You're smart."

Yuqi joined Cube through a public audition held in Beijing in 2016. In 2018, she debuted as a member of the group (G)I-DLE and gained a lot of love with songs like "DUMDi DUMDi," "TOMBOY," "Nxde," and "Queencard."
