뉴욕 진출한 인사동 지팡이 아이스크림

인사동에서 인기리에 판매되고 있는 '지팡이 아이스크림'이 미국 뉴욕 한복판에 진출했다. 2013년 한국에 출시된 지팡이 아이스크림은 구부러진 과자 안에 아이스크림을 채워 넣은 음식이다.

미국 그럽스트릿(Grub Street)이 지난달 30일(이하 현지시각) 뉴욕 소호에서 판매되고 있는 푸드 트럭 '플레이 제이 아이스크림' (Play J Ice Cream)을 소개했다.

플레이 제이 아이스크림은 강철호 씨와 리치 키온(Rich Kion)이 공동 창립했으며 약 6주 전에 판매를 개시했다. 강철호 씨가 한국에서 과자 기계를 구입해 와 지팡이 모양 과자를 제조하고 있다고 전해졌다. 플레이 제이 아이스크림은 하나에 4달러(약 4500원)로 판매된다.

미국 마셔블은 알파벳 J모양의 플레이 제이 아이스크림이 마치 남성의 성기같이 보인다고 표현했다. 하지만 이 모양 덕에 아이스크림이 녹아 흐르는 것을 방지하는 장점이 있다고 설명했다.
