On December 20, Shin Se-kyung's agency, The Present Company, announced, "The perpetrator, who engaged in persistent cyber harassment against actress Shin Se-kyung, has been apprehended through legal procedures."

The agency stated, "The perpetrator has continuously carried out threats, malicious slander, the spread of false information, and offensive remarks targeting not only the actress but also her fans, family, and associates on various online platforms over several years."

They further explained, "Legal proceedings are currently underway against the perpetrator. Moving forward, we will continue to take all possible legal measures to protect the rights and interests of our artists and staff." The agency also emphasized, "We will respond firmly and without exception to any similar cases in the future."

Regarding the case, Kim Ji-ae, a lawyer from Ascendant Yulbon, commented, "As the investigation is ongoing, we are closely monitoring its progress. Together with the agency, we are fully committed to preventing recurrence and protecting the victim." She added, "We hope this case raises awareness that malicious online comments can be traced and that perpetrators will face legal consequences."

Previously, in August of last year, Shin Se-kyung's agency announced they were pursuing criminal complaints against individuals who persistently posted malicious comments targeting the actress.

In February of the same year, the agency filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, accusing one unnamed individual and another party of defamation. Additionally, in October 2021, they filed complaints against 43 individuals on similar charges.

At the time, the agency acknowledged the difficulty of identifying the accused but stated, "We are continuing to collect additional evidence to secure the identities of the accused." They also declared, "Even if it takes time, we will push for thorough investigations without leniency as soon as further identities are confirmed."
