K-pop artist Jay Park has canceled his final performance of the year to honor the victims of the Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 tragedy, which occurred on December 29. The crash claimed the lives of 179 passengers out of 181 aboard.
On December 30, Jay Park addressed fans through his Instagram Stories, expressing both regret and condolences. "My apologies to my Fans in Tokyo. I have decided to cancel my performance at CE LA VI out of respect to the ones that have passed in the recent Jeju Air accident," he wrote, sharing his sympathy for the victims.
In a heartfelt follow-up, he added, "My heart goes out for all the people involved in this heart-wrenching tragedy and their families. Please keep them in your prayers."
Jay Park had been slated to perform at the CE LA VI Tokyo Countdown Party on December 31. However, his label, MORE VISION, officially confirmed the cancellation via social media. "First and foremost, we extend our deepest condolences to the victims and grieving families affected by the tragic plane accident on December 29th," the statement read.
The tragedy unfolded when Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, en route from Bangkok to Muan International Airport, attempted an emergency landing due to a landing gear malfunction. The aircraft collided with a concrete embankment at the end of the runway during its belly landing attempt, resulting in a catastrophic loss of life.
