One of the standout moments in Netflix’s 'Squid Game 2' is the mesmerizing gonggi (traditional Korean game) scene featuring Kang Ha-neul as Player 388: Dae-ho. In the series, Dae-ho flawlessly completes the gonggi game in one try, showcasing impressive dexterity. However, the hands performing the intricate moves weren’t Kang Ha-neul’s.

The credit goes to Park Jong-nam, a gonggi expert who previously appeared on SBS’s long-running show 'Master of Living' as a master of the game. Listed as the "Gonggi Hand Double" in the end credits, Park recently shared behind-the-scenes stories on Instagram, drawing widespread attention. Park recounted being contacted by a producer from 'Master of Living' just two days before his wedding. "I was told it was for a global OTT production and headed to Daejeon, where I signed an extensive confidentiality agreement," he revealed.

During the shoot, Park joined the likes of Lee Byung-hun, Lee Jung-jae, and Kang Ha-neul for lunch. "They asked me how I got so good at gonggi and even congratulated me on my upcoming wedding," Park said, though he regretted being unable to take photos or get autographs due to strict confidentiality rules. The scene was shot in a single take, but Kang Ha-neul’s support left a lasting impression on Park. "He helped ease my nerves before and after the shoot, and even asked me to teach him how to play gonggi. We ended up playing together and even kicked a jegi (a traditional Korean game)," Park shared.

A Heartfelt Gift from Kang Ha-neul

After the shoot, Kang Ha-neul handed Park a gift—a box of signature bread from a famous bakery in Daejeon—for his wife. Park remarked, "I now understand why Kang Ha-neul is loved by so many. His kindness truly shines."

Park admitted he had no idea the project was 'Squid Game 2' at the time. "I wrapped up filming a day before my wedding and kept the secret for an entire year," he said. Watching the final product with his wife was a joyous experience, and he expressed gratitude for being part of such a monumental series.
