Rumors about Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio joining the cast of Netflix’s hit series ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 have been officially debunked.

A Netflix representative stated on January 1, “The speculation about Leonardo DiCaprio appearing in ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 is entirely unfounded,” putting an end to the buzz. Earlier, a media outlet had reported that DiCaprio had already completed filming for Season 3, which is set to premiere this summer. However, Netflix promptly denied these claims, emphasizing that the report was baseless.

In 2021, shortly after the release of Season 1, Lee Jung-jae shared a photo with DiCaprio taken at the LACMA Art+Film Gala in Los Angeles, sparking widespread excitement among fans.

The following year, Lee mentioned DiCaprio again during a red carpet interview at the SAG Awards. When asked which American actor he’d like to see in the series, he responded, “Leonardo DiCaprio,” openly expressing his hopes for a collaboration.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also hinted at the possibility of involving DiCaprio in the past. During a press conference in September 2022, celebrating the show’s Emmy wins, Hwang addressed questions about casting international stars. “I heard DiCaprio is a fan of ‘Squid Game.’ Among ourselves, we even joked about reaching out to him if the chance arose,” he said.

While these remarks fueled fans’ expectations of seeing DiCaprio in the series, Netflix’s latest statement confirms that the speculation was merely a rumor.
