Cha Eun-woo’s Agency Says, “Positively Reviewing the Offer”
Go Min-si has been confirmed for the upcoming drama by star writers, the Hong Sisters (Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran), sparking speculation over who will play the male lead alongside her.
On January 9, News1 reported that Cha Eun-woo is currently reviewing an offer to star in the Hong Sisters’ new drama. His agency, Fantagio, confirmed, “We recently received an offer for the Hong Sisters’ latest project and are positively reviewing it. For now, Cha Eun-woo is focused on filming Netflix’s The Wonderfuls. Once his next project is decided, we will share an update.”
The Hong Sisters are behind several hit dramas, including You’re Beautiful, Hotel Del Luna, The Greatest Love, Alchemy of Souls, A Korean Odyssey, Master’s Sun, Big, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, and Couple or Trouble.
One of their most iconic works, The Greatest Love, concluded in June 2011 with record-breaking ratings, surpassing 20%. According to Nielsen Korea, the drama’s finale achieved an impressive 21% nationwide viewership. The series maintained double-digit ratings throughout its run and consistently ranked first among Wednesday-Thursday dramas, proving its immense popularity.
The Greatest Love followed the comedic romance between top star Dokko Jin (Cha Seung-won) and former idol group member Gu Ae-jung (Gong Hyo-jin), capturing the hearts of viewers.
Cha Eun-woo, who debuted with the group ASTRO in 2016, has not only gained fame as a singer but also as a leading actor in dramas like My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung, and True Beauty. His performances have earned him significant domestic and international popularity.
Last year, Cha co-starred with Kim Nam-joo in MBC’s Wonderful World, portraying Kwon Sun-yool, a mysterious character who has lost both his family and dreams. His performance displayed a new depth, earning praise for its emotional nuance.
Kim Ji-eun, the writer of Wonderful World, shared in an interview with Herald POP that she was deeply impressed by Cha Eun-woo’s dedication to his role. “Watching him endlessly research and reflect on the character of Kwon Sun-yool was astonishing. He portrayed the character with sensitivity, mystery, and a poignant sense of tragedy. I believe the role became even more beautiful because Cha Eun-woo brought it to life,” she said.
