Choi Min-hwan’s Return—Domestic vs. Overseas Plans

During his birthday fan meeting on March 2, titled HONGGI B-DAY PARTY 'XXX', Lee Hong-gi openly addressed Choi Min-hwan’s return to FTISLAND.

He explained that the band will continue as a two-member unit in Korea while performing as a three-member group internationally. “I understand that some people in Korea may feel uncomfortable about this. I believe it’s important to respect different perspectives,” he said.

However, Hong-gi also hinted at a full three-member comeback in Korea in the future, stating, “We know what people might say, and we’re prepared for it. That’s why I wanted to speak up about this now.”

“FTISLAND Needs a Drummer” – Hong-gi Defends Their Decision

Addressing concerns directly, Lee Hong-gi emphasized that having a drummer is essential for FTISLAND. “If something truly unforgivable had happened, we would have made a different choice. But after careful consideration, we believe Min-hwan is necessary for FTISLAND,” he explained.

For now, the band will maintain its two-member structure in Korea while ensuring FTISLAND continues to thrive. Hong-gi also acknowledged that some fans might struggle with the situation, adding, “We will follow our own path, but if needed, we can also consider having Min-hwan participate only as a session drummer during performances.”

Choi Min-hwan’s return has sparked divided opinions among fans. While some welcomed the move, expressing excitement over FTISLAND returning to its original form and trusting the members' decision, others remained skeptical, believing that it might still be too soon for a full comeback. Some fans emphasized that FTISLAND’s sound wouldn’t be complete without Min-hwan’s drumming, while others acknowledged the reasoning behind keeping the group as a duo in Korea but felt that a full three-member return required more careful consideration.

With FTISLAND’s domestic and international plans now split, all eyes are on how the band will navigate this sensitive and evolving situation.
