‘Resident Playbook’ Hits Highest Ratings Yet Ahead of Finale
tvN’s hit medical drama Resident Playbook (Korean title: 언젠가는 슬기로울 전공의생활) just delivered its most heart-fluttering moment yet — and viewers responded in kind.
In episode 9, aired on May 10, fans witnessed the long-awaited romantic breakthrough between Oh I-young (Go Youn-jung) and Koo Do-won (Jung Joon-won). After weeks of tension and missed chances, the two finally confessed their feelings — sealing the moment with a kiss. The episode recorded 6.2% nationwide viewership, a slight increase from the previous 6.0% and a new series high.

“Ogu Couple” Finally Happens
After wrestling with his emotions, Do-won invites I-young out to dinner with the intention of confessing. He prepares everything — a restaurant, a bouquet, even a heartfelt letter. But life throws a wrench into his perfect plan: a delivery mishap ruins the flowers, and he forgets the dinner reservation date.
Disappointed, I-young bumps into Do-won at a local playground and expresses her frustration. But Do-won, not one to give up, simply says, "I like you, Oh I-young."
I-young responds with a knowing smile, “I’ve already confessed so many times. You know without me saying it.” What follows is a heartfelt hug and a kiss — a direct, emotional payoff that had viewers cheering.
A Surprise Idol Reveal and Secondhand Romance
Elsewhere in the episode, an unexpected storyline surprised fans. First-year resident Eom Jae-il (Kang You-seok) is revealed to be a former K-pop idol. During a karaoke outing with fellow interns, he performs one of his old hits — to the sheer delight of Kim Sa-bi (Han Ye-ji), who drops her cool facade and reveals she was a longtime fan.
The spontaneous “fan meeting” between the retired idol and his once-devoted supporter had other characters — including Oh I-young and Pyo Nam-gyeong (Shin Si-ah) — squealing and covering their mouths in shock and delight.
Beloved ‘Hospital Playlist’ Couple Returns in Heartwarming Cameo
In Episode 10 of Resident Playbook, fans were treated to a long-awaited reunion as Jo Jung-suk (Lee Ik-jun) and Jeon Mi-do (Chae Song-hwa) made their special cameo appearance—reprising their beloved Hospital Playlist roles. Their brief but meaningful return added a nostalgic and emotional layer to the already touching storyline.
The scene unfolds as Song-hwa rushes to the hospital upon hearing an “emergency” involving Ik-jun. But in typical Yulje fashion, it turns out to be a false alarm—prompting relief, laughter, and even a little jealous tension from junior doctor Son Ji-yoon, who seems unexpectedly ruffled by the legendary couple's easy chemistry.
The return of Ik-jun and Song-hwa feels like a symbolic passing of the torch—reminding viewers of how far the Yulje universe has come.
What’s Next?
As Resident Playbook heads into its final episodes, tvN has dropped the official preview for Episode 11, and fans are in for a delightful mix of budding relationships and unexpected lore at Yulje Hospital.
Following the much-anticipated kiss between Oh I-young (Go Youn-jung) and Koo Do-won (Jung Joon-won) in episode 10, their relationship appears to be blossoming in full force. The teaser shows the couple exchanging sweet glances and casual banter, fueling what looks like an official office romance. Their co-residents can't help but notice the shift, adding playful tension to their dynamic.
But the episode isn’t all love and butterflies.
The preview hints at a longstanding hospital legend that suddenly begins circulating among the residents. Though details are vague, the reactions from the staff suggest the story is either hilariously absurd or suspiciously real. As whispers spread through the hallways, the legend injects a dose of humor—and mystery—into the daily grind at Yulje.
Meanwhile, side characters also show signs of developing emotional arcs, suggesting that Episode 11 may serve as a turning point for several relationships, both personal and professional.
With just two episodes left, the series continues to balance romance, realism, and light-hearted storytelling, all set against the high-stakes backdrop of life inside a teaching hospital.
Episode 11 airs on Saturday at 9:20 p.m. KST on tvN.
