‘Zero Income’ and Disbandment Rumors? K-pop Girl Group Drops a Surprise Twist

K-pop girl group EVERGLOW is entering a new chapter, as all six members have officially ended their exclusive contracts with YUEHUA Entertainment, according to a May 13 report by Maeil Business Star.

Sources revealed that the members are currently wrapping up team activities and exploring opportunities with new agencies. YUEHUA, acknowledging that it could no longer maintain contracts with the members, has decided to part ways and expressed support for their future endeavors.

The announcement sparked speculation that the group might be disbanding. EVERGLOW, which debuted in March 2019, had been active through 2021 with consistent album releases. However, starting in 2022, the group experienced a long period of inactivity, with only one single release each in 2023 and 2024 and minimal promotions.

Earlier this year, in March, Chinese member Yiren shared a candid message with fans on a communication platform, saying, "I really love performing, but I’m not earning anything. Still, I don’t want to give up this job." She also revealed that she had not received proper payment from the agency, shocking fans. While YUEHUA did not issue an official response, the group’s contract termination and dissolution of ties followed soon after.

The group’s name, EVERGLOW, is a portmanteau meaning “to always shine,” and they were known from debut for their bold individuality and high-energy performances. Amid growing concerns about disbandment, members Onda and Sihyeon addressed fans directly in a livestream after the news broke.

While confirming their departure from the agency, they firmly denied that the group was disbanding. “We are leaving YUEHUA, but we’re not breaking up. We’re still EVERGLOW,” they emphasized, reassuring fans of their strong bond and unity.

Fans, relieved by the message, continue to send messages of love and support, hopeful for a fresh start and new activities under different management.
