The Perfect Summer K-Movie? The Cast Alone Has Everyone Talking

An upcoming Korean film is drawing attention even before its release, thanks to a dazzling lead cast and a heartwarming story. The music romance film Midnight Sun has officially confirmed its premiere for July 11, just in time to kick off the summer movie season.

Midnight Sun follows Misol (played by Jung Ziso), a girl who can only go outside at night, and Minjun (played by Cha Hak-yeon), as they open up to each other through music and pursue their dreams together. The story captures the passion and love of youth as intense as the summer sun.

🌙 Lead Cast: Jung Ziso and Cha Hak-yeon

Jung Ziso, born in 1999, is a talented actress who began her career as a child star. She first gained recognition in the 2012 drama May Queen, playing the younger version of the lead character. She later shot to international fame as Da-hye, the daughter in Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, which won four Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Since then, Jung has expanded her acting range with appearances in dramas like Snowdrop and All of Us Are Dead. In Netflix’s hit series The Glory, she portrayed the younger version of Moon Dong-eun, the main character and a victim of school violence — a performance that left a lasting impression thanks to her emotional depth and screen presence.

Cha Hak-yeon, born in 1990 and also known by his real name, is a singer and actor who debuted as the leader and main vocalist of K-pop group VIXX in 2012.

Known for his emotional vocals and stable performance skills, he has steadily expanded into acting. Since his acting debut in the 2014 drama Hotel King, Cha has taken on diverse roles in series such as The Liar and His Lover, Tunnel, and Adamas. Most recently, in 2023, he starred in the tvN drama Castaway Diva as Jeong-beom, a gentle and sincere character that resonated with viewers for its authenticity and warmth.

The film’s original soundtrack (OST) will be composed and written by Lee Chan-hyuk, one half of the sibling duo AKMU. Midnight Sun marks his first film OST project, and his musical sensibility is expected to add rich emotion to the film’s narrative. His work, combined with the leads’ emotionally nuanced performances, promises to elevate the cinematic experience both visually and sonically.

With a heartfelt story, rising star power, and a moving soundtrack, Midnight Sun is set to become a summer favorite for fans of K-romance and musical dramas alike.
