During a press conference for I-DLE’s 8th mini album release held on May 19
At a press conference held on May 19 to celebrate the release of their 8th mini album We Are, I-DLE (formerly (G)I-DLE) opened up about their group name change and shared insights into their new era.

At the press event held at Josun Palace in Gangnam, Seoul, the members of I-DLE unveiled the music video for their new title track “Good Thing” and reflected on their group’s rebranding journey.
Member Miyeon explained the reason behind dropping the “(G)” (short for “Girls” in Korean) from their original name (G)I-DLE:
“Even at debut, we found it a bit curious that ‘(G)’ was attached to our name. We used to say, ‘Let’s remove it once we’re more well known.’”
She added: “Since debut, we’ve introduced ourselves as ‘I-DLE,’ and now it finally feels like we’ve truly claimed our name. It makes us really happy to move forward under the name I-DLE.”

About the Album ‘We Are’:
We Are is the group’s first release since rebranding from (G)I-DLE to I-DLE, and also marks their first comeback following the renewal of all members’ contracts. The album continues the thematic evolution of their “I” series—first launched with their debut album I Am—but shifts toward a more collective identity with the title We, symbolizing the start of a new chapter together.
The title track “Good Thing” showcases the group’s signature cool confidence and witty attitude. The retro-inspired instrumentation, paired with a clever 8-bit sound in the second verse, creates a playful yet stylish atmosphere. Leader Soyeon took part in writing, composing, and arranging the song.
