Kyuhyun Responds to Backlash Over Final Alliance in 'The Devil’s Plan' Season 2

While Jung Hyun-kyu claimed victory on ''The Devil's Plan: Death Room'', viewers have been divided over the controversial alliance that helped him win—especially the role played by actress Yoon So-hee. The backlash even prompted Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, who was also part of the alliance, to speak up directly in response to the criticism.

In the final episode of the Netflix reality show released on May 20, Jung Hyun-kyu made a dramatic comeback after being on the brink of elimination. The episode also featured an unexpected reshuffling of alliances that led to mixed reactions among fans. Some viewers questioned the actions of Jung, Yoon So-hee, and Kyuhyun, leaving harsh comments online. Many argued that Yoon and Kyuhyun played a decisive role in Jung’s victory.

One particularly heated moment was when Yoon So-hee, despite having a strong chance of defeating Jung, appeared to give up the match. This led to outrage, with some calling it “unprecedented” and accusing her of abandoning the core idea of a survival game. Critics commented, “Is this a survival show or a dating program?”, and “I’ve never seen someone cry while pushing someone else to first place.” Other reactions included “Most boring season ever” and questions like “Why is Hyun-kyu always the one winning in that alliance?” sparked by castmate Sevenhigh’s pointed remarks.

Kyuhyun addressed the controversy on May 21 through a fan communication platform, saying, “The production team couldn’t show everything on air. I have my own regrets, but it is what it is.” He added, “I’ll share the behind-the-scenes stories another time. Just know that among the cast, we’re really close and understanding of each other, so I hope viewers can see us in a positive light. Everyone had their own reasons.”

While Kyuhyun’s comments reassured some fans, the controversy continues to stir discussion online.
