3살 순수혈통 저먼셰퍼드인 콰지모도(Quasimodo)다. 이름은 빅토르 위고 소설 '노틀담의 꼽추'에 나오는 꼽추 콰지모도에서 따왔다고 한다.

콰지모도는 짧은 척추 증후군이라는 유전병을 가지고 태어났다. 현재까지 모두 13건밖에 알려지지 않은 희소병이다. 엑스레이 사진을 보면 척추가 아래로 휘어져 있다.

콰지모도 사연이 페이스북으로 알려지자 지난달 28일(이하 현지시각) "콰지 더 그레이트(Quasi The Great)"라는 페이스북 팬 페이지까지 생겨났다. 페이스북 '좋아요' 수는 4만 4000명이 넘었다. 세컨핸드 하운즈는 이 페이지에 콰지모도의 상태를 알리고, 사진과 영상도 올리고 있다.
콰지모도는 비록 몸은 다른 개들과 다르지만 누구보다 사랑스럽다고 사육사들은 말한다. 세컨핸드 하운즈에서 콰지모도를 돌보는 사라 앤더슨(Sara Anderson)은 "콰지모도는 다른 개처럼 예쁘지는 않을 수 있지만, 마음과 영혼만은 그 누구보다 빛난다. 신이 만들어 낸 가장 아름다운 생명체 가운데 하나"라고 CNN방송에 말했다.
