BoA posts apology on fan platform Weverse
Singer BoA has publicly apologized on Weverse following backlash over her recent livestream. On April 5, BoA joined a casual, alcohol-fueled live broadcast with TV host Jun Hyun-moo, where her candid comments and behavior sparked criticism.
In particular, BoA’s remarks about comedian Park Na-rae drew attention. When a viewer brought up past dating rumors between Jun Hyun-moo and Park Na-rae, BoA responded bluntly: “They wouldn’t date. They just can’t.” Jun then asked, “Why? Do you think Park Na-rae isn’t good enough?” to which BoA replied, “No, you’re too good for her.” Though Jun attempted to caution her — saying, “This is being broadcasted, you know” — BoA brushed it off, joking: “I belong on AfreecaTV anyway.”
The stream was eventually cut short after Jun mentioned he was getting urgent calls from his agency, saying, “The company is freaking out.” Shortly after, social media lit up with criticism, with many calling BoA’s remarks “inappropriate,” “careless,” and “unbecoming of a senior artist.”

On April 7, BoA apologized for her immature attitude, especially mentioning her comment about Park Na-rae. She stated she had personally apologized to Park and thanked her for her understanding. BoA also expressed regret to fans, promising to reflect and be more mindful in the future.
Two days later, on April 7, BoA took to fan platform Weverse to issue an apology. She acknowledged that her behavior was immature and offered sincere regret to anyone who felt uncomfortable. She also specifically addressed her comment about Park Na-rae, saying:
“I made an inappropriate remark about someone who wasn’t present. I have personally apologized to Park Na-rae and am grateful for her kind understanding.”
BoA also expressed remorse to her long-time fans, writing:
“I feel deeply sorry for disappointing those who’ve supported me for so long. This has been a moment of reflection, and I promise to be more mindful in the future.”
Jun Hyun-moo has yet to address the incident.
Public and Fan Reactions
Reactions have been mixed. Some fans appreciated BoA’s swift acknowledgment and praised her for taking responsibility.
“She owned up to it and apologized directly — that takes maturity,” one fan commented on X (formerly Twitter).
Others, however, questioned her judgment, especially given her seniority in the industry:
“BoA is a pioneer in K-pop. She should know better,” one viewer wrote.
“Even in casual settings, celebrities are role models. It wasn’t a good look,” said another.
Park Na-rae, known for her candid and often self-deprecating humor, has not publicly addressed the situation. BoA claims the matter is resolved privately between them.
As for Jun Hyun-moo, he has yet to make any statement. Some netizens criticized his silence, while others felt he handled the situation professionally by trying to steer the conversation and end the stream once it got uncomfortable.
Industry Context
BoA, often referred to as the "Queen of K-pop," debuted at age 13 and has remained a prominent figure in the industry for over two decades. Known for her polished image and professionalism, the controversy felt jarring to many who have followed her career. The livestream incident marks one of the rare moments where BoA’s public image has been challenged.
Jun Hyun-moo is a popular TV host known for his quick wit and presence on variety shows like I Live Alone. His involvement in the stream may have seemed harmless, but given his standing as a media personality, some viewers were surprised he didn’t manage the broadcast more carefully.
