Secrets Behind the Bow: A Sibling Mystery.

Netflix’s upcoming K-drama 'Dear Hongrang' is already generating major buzz ahead of its premiere on May 16, thanks to its star-studded cast and intriguing storyline. With the release of its main poster and official trailer, excitement has only grown stronger.

Set in the Joseon Dynasty, 'Dear Hongrang' tells the story of Hongrang, the son of the richest merchant family, who mysteriously returns home after losing his memory and disappearing for 12 years. This historical romance and mystery drama dives deep into identity, suspicion, and buried secrets.

With a stellar lineup including Lee Jae-wook, Jo Bo-ah, Jung Ga-ram, Uhm Ji-won, Park Byung-eun, and Kim Jae-wook, the series has already captured viewers’ attention before airing a single episode.

The main poster sparked intrigue, showing Hongrang (Lee Jae-wook) holding a bow behind his half-sister Jae-yi (Cho Bo-ah), aiming an arrow with intense focus. The tension in their pose hints at a complex relationship and raises questions—who is he aiming at, and why?

Also featured is Mujin (Jung Ga-ram), the adopted son of the merchant clan, who has been standing in for Hongrang all these years. His gaze toward the two suggests a deeper narrative and looming tension.

Trailer Teases Suspicion and Secrets

The newly released trailer dives into the chaos sparked by Hongrang’s return. Although everyone believes he is the real Hongrang—his facial features matching perfectly—it’s only his half-sister Jae-yi who has doubts. Her icy words, “You call that Hongrang?”, set the tone for a clash filled with tension and mistrust.

In dramatic scenes, Hongrang is seen aiming his bow at Jae-yi from a rooftop and fighting off unknown enemies with expert swordsmanship. Flashbacks and fragmented memories suggest a traumatic past that’s still haunting him.

One of the most emotional moments comes when Jae-yi softly says, “Whether you’re real or not, I just don’t want you to hurt anymore,” as the two share a quiet moment in a snowy landscape. Their emotional connection is anything but simple.

Lee Jae-wook described Jae-yi as “sharper than a sword” to Hongrang, while Cho Bo-ah called his character “so cruel and frustrating,” adding that she would have been devastated knowing his return would stop all efforts to find the real Hongrang. Their fraught relationship—full of suspicion, longing, and unspoken pain—is expected to be a major draw.

More Than Just Romance

'Dear Hongrang' also explores the lives of other powerful characters. Mujin’s place is threatened by Hongrang’s return. Their biological father, Shim Yeol-guk (Park Byung-eun), and Hongrang’s mother, Min Yeon-ui (Uhm Ji-won), are likely to have their own secrets and shifting loyalties.

Adding another layer, Kim Jae-wook plays Grand Prince Hanpyeong, a royal with the finest artistic eye in the country. In a recent interview with Singles magazine, Kim said, “It’s a story packed with mystery, suspense, and romance, all revolving around the male lead Hongrang. I’ve worked with director Kim Hong-sun before, and I immediately said yes when I was offered this role.”
